Finally some update from Yahoo and it was surprising that it came for Android Devices with launch of a brand new app ( still in beta ) called as HUB which is a Messaging App bringing you that allows you to send text messages and have group conversations for free.
Though the idea is not new and very similar to WhatsApp or IM+ applications are doing but what is different here is that it allows you send messages to users who even don’t have this app installed on their phone or are totally into different Mobile OS.
Recently a service JaxtrSMS was launched which works on the same way but keeping Yahoo Messenger Popularity, Hub can directly compete with this service and the others too.
Key Features :
- Group Conversation with any number of friends
- You can send Local and international SMS messages with any text cost. But as of now it is limited to Canada, Indonesia, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Philippines, Pakistan, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.
- Get push notifications for incoming messages so you never have to miss a conversation
- Requires Android OS 2.1+ and is only available to users who have a US Sim and a text plan.
So you are not charged for any text messages as the message is sent over WIFI or your cellular data connection and you can send your message if you have his or her number on your mobile. However to full enjoy all the features, the person should have app installed on his mobile which is available only for android right now.
As of now I am not sure how exactly the service is working but it should be same as other. Do read the official post here
